Papua New Guinea is located in the tropics, with the obvious accompaniments of rainforests, mountains and wild rivers and a year-round warm and humid climate. Not as well known is what it has to offer in the crystal clear waters surrounding it - an amazing variety of unspoiled dive sites with coral reefs, WWII ship and aircraft wrecks, sunken live volcanoes and marine life is there to be explored. New Ireland is just two degrees south of the equator and is a most beautiful and tranquil island. Kavieng is on its tip and the area offers great surfing, plus reef and wreck diving, with hundreds of coral atolls, reefs and quays. Kavieng has nine reef breaks which means consistently good surfing conditions in the season from November to April. You have access to 5 rights and 4 lefts, and with limited numbers of surfers permitted at the resort you are guaranteed uncrowded waves. The safe conditions also attract families.
Weather: At 2.5 degrees south of the equator, the perfect tropical weather will ensure a perfect 'Melanesian' holiday. Like all other equatorial climates, PNG experience a 'wet' and a 'dry' season - The wet season occurs from November through to April (best surf season) and the dry season occurs from May to October. On average temperatures average between 16 and 27 degrees Celsius, and water temperatures remain warm year round at an average of 26 degrees Celsius.
