FERNIE
Fernie has become one of Canada’s great ski mountains – it has experienced
huge growth and has more developments planned. Located in the southeast corner of British Columbia – Fernie
is in an extremely picturesque part of the Canadian Rockie Mountains. The region receives very high snowfalls
(av 345 inches each year), but with usually milder temperatures than elsewhere in Canada. The ski area has 5
large bowls that descend from above the tree-line down into thick pine and larch forests. There is good on-mountain
accommodation or you can stay in the township of Fernie which is 5km from the ski area. Fernie is not a glitzy
ski area and there isn’t an abundance of nightlife, but there are plenty of good and affordable, bars
and restaurants – and the powder snow is something else!
