HAWAII

Hawaii is the ultimate in hard core surfing. Huge swells, unhindered for thousands of miles, hit the shores of Hawaii to produce some of the best and most challenging surf you could ever experience. Hawaii is definitely not for the faint hearted, as the winter swells often exceed 15ft. Perfectly formed waves break at places with household names like Pipeline, Sunset Beach, and Waimea Bay. If you want to mix it with the big boys, Hawaii is the place! If you want to surf the North Shore of Oahu, your best time to travel is from October to February. If you want something more mellow, head to Waikiki in our winter months.

Hawaii is renowned for huge, barreling surf in it's winter season, and the North Shore of Oahu has some of the best surf in the islands. Being located in the mid-Pacific, with no continental shelf to restrict swell advancement, the surf is generally powerful, consistent and sizeable. The North Shore's season begins in October and peaks in February, though there can still be large surf as late as March. Swell backs off through April-May, with June through August expected to be flat. Trade winds are semi-offshore in the main surf area of the North Shore. During these months, incredible waves can be found on other islands throughout the Hawaiian Island chain, usually without the crowds. The South Shore (Waikiki) has waves from April through September, with the best months being May and June. Best conditions are southerly swells with light north-east or north trade winds.

Weather: Weather on all of the Hawaiian Islands is very consistent, with only minor changes in temperature throughout the year. This is due to year-round warm sea surface temperatures, which keep the overlying atmosphere warm as well. In practical terms, there are only 2 seasons: the summer months that extend from May to October and the winter months. The average daytime summer temperature is 29.4 degrees Celsius while the average daytime winter temperature is 25.6 degrees Celsius. The wettest months are from November - March, but winter rains do not generally disrupt your holiday, since the weather is very localised. This means that if it is raining where you are, there is almost always a sunny spot to be found around the coast! Hawaii's water temperatures remain comfortable throughout the year with the average water temperature being around 23.3 degrees Celsius.
