Jeffrey's Bay

J Bay is one of the top ten most perfect waves on the planet. You’ve dreamed about J Bay, seen a zillion photos and videos, mind-surfed it for years. Aren’t you curious to see how you go for real? Surfing J Bay is like getting behind the wheel of a vintage Jag or Ferrari: raw beautiful speed, drift through the turns, accelerate in the straights, go man go. Express yourself.

The many points of Jeffrey’s Bay are the main attraction to this part of the world, but not the only attraction. An hour’s drive either way from J Bay are dozens of surf spots: reefs, beach breaks and other points. Surfer Magazine recently included Jeffrey’s Bay in its list of Meccas – surf trips that all surfers must make.

WaterWays Travel agrees and we have a variety of packages to accommodate everyone, from the budget traveler and beginner surfer, to those who want luxury, and who want nothing more to jump off the rocks at Super Tubes and have a go when it’s 8 to 10 feet, with 15 knot offshores.

Your local hosts are Robin van de Linde and Etenne Venter. Robin, with a background in hospitality relocated to Jeffrey’s Bay in 2004. Over some time he connected with legends and big names in the local surfing industry, amongst them Etienne Venter. Etienne is the owner of the “ Jeffreys Bay Surf School ”, selector of the National Springbok Surf Team and contest director for the S.A. Junior Series. If anyone knows anything about surfing J-Bay, it would be Etienne, well known and respected by all in Jeffrey’s Bay. The balanced mix of Robin’s organizational skills with Etienne’s surf experience and intimate knowledge of the area, people and waves is the perfect foundation for J-Bay Surf trips.

Whether you are a beginner or advanced surfer you will have use of Jeffrey’s Bay Surf School for daily surf lessons. Depending on the weather and surf reports, instructors who are S.S.A/E.P qualified lifeguards and S.S.A Level Three instructors will take you around to the best spots for each day - so good surf is hard to avoid. Visitors who don’t want surf lessons will go on a surfari with knowledgeable local surf guides, to visit the best spots ranging from Seal Point to Victoria Bay given daily conditions. A huge selection of surf equipment from soft-tops to hand-shaped boards, all kinds of wetsuits and other water sports equipment is included in all packages.

Each day you are picked up and dropped off at your accommodation and the equipment is provided, if needed, so all you need to do is relax and enjoy the trip.

The Camp

THE SURFHOUSE
Classic Package accommodation & Base camp

Enjoying a stunning location perched on a dune overlooking the Indian Ocean , the Surfhouse is the perfect setting for any surfer. The Aloe framed wooden decks overlooking the surf and the beach provide a perfect spot to check swell conditions, watch the surf or do some whale and dolphin watching. Accommodations range from dorms with bunk beds to en-suite double rooms, all with ocean views. The Surfhouse also features a self catering kitchen, outdoor restaurant and a full licensed bar, all with a truly laid back, surfing atmosphere.

Luxury lodge right on the world class waves of Supertubes, where the pros sleep during the ASP Billabong Pro in July ! This superbly positioned lodge offers a unique beach front experience, each suite has a stylish decor, complete with it's own private balcony with a breath taking view of waves, dolphins and African sunrises. Nice bistro on the basement floor with full continental breakfast, creative cuisine and shushi-continental food.

The Surf

Surf School & Tours
The School’s head instructor is Eastern Cape Province Surf Team’s coach. Safe beach with lifeguard. Two hours daily lesson in the morning (all levels) + Free use of the material for practice in the afternoon. For accomplished surfers, surfaris to local spots.

Surf Spots
Excellent surfspots right in front of the Surfhouse. Surfaris with local guide to the epic waves of Jeffreys Bay featured in “Endless Summer”. Between May and August, the low pressure systems moving across the cape generate a swell that rolls into Jeffreys Bay , creating one of the best right hand break in the world, Supertubes, venue of the ASP Billabong Pro

Accommodation in the Surflodge, only 5 meters away from the beach and has view on legendary  ‘supertubes’ break.. This  executive luxury accommodation is also used for the ASP Billabong Pro JBay in July, when the pro surfers come to compete in Jeffreys Bay …

Airport pick ups are NOT included for:

Transfers from/to Port Elizabeth will be 45 EUR (one way) and 80 EUR (round trip)

• visitors who don’t want surf lessons go on tour with our surf guide, who has lots of local knowledge, to visit the best spots in the area every day ….
• we have a huge selection of surf equipment from soft-tops to hand-shaped boards, also all kinds of wetsuits and other water sports material
• Customers that choose the daily surf lessons will also go on surfari at least once a week and experience the legendary waves of Endless Summer
• in all packages clients can use the fully equipped kitchen and all facilities such as pool table, TV, DVD-room, BBQ free of a charge ….
• all clients are fully insured
• all our S.S.A./E.P. surf instructors are qualified lifeguards and SSA-instructors at level 3
• clients booking accommodation only will be charged 80 euros (both ways) and 45 euros (one way) for airport pick-ups at Port Elizabeth
